Q : we have all had our small lemonaid business in our past, well most of us... but we were never taxed on our business or had any regulations that we have to follow however as we age so doesnt our responsibility as citizens. At the age of 16 our first paying job, we get introduced into paying taxes and following working regulations. At the young age of 16 & 17 our minds are raped up in many usefull ideas and some crazy, however i came upon this question how old do you have to be to start your own side business and are there any limitations of starting your own website to sell things on. if so what are they? my last question is other than paying taxes would i need anything elts.
A : A kid of any age can start a business. However, there are special legal issues that come up. For example, minors generally are not legally competent to enter into binding contracts. As a result, others will generally not want to do business with a minor. In order to fix that, the minor needs to get someone else involved who can be legally on the hook whom others are willing to deal with. That's just one example. The minor will want to see a lawyer to help set things up to facilitate the special concerns that arise.
By the way, there is no minimum age on paying taxes, either. Even a newborn with income must pay tax on it.
