Is it illegal for an employee own computer?
Q : Is it illegal for an employee of a firm to apply for a personal loan on an employer-owned computer? If so, under law, must the work computer server be shut down if reported?
A : More details are needed to know if what the employee did was illegal. If the employer took told the lender that the employee owned the computer and pledged the computer as security for the loan, then the employee has committed fraud against the lender, and may also risk conversion charges as well.
As for shutting down the server, I don't see why the employer's server would need to be shut down. For the most part, the law doesn't regulate when privately owned computer servers must be shut down. That's a decision for the owner of the computer to make.
