IS it Valid divorce ?
Q : My "husband" was divorced from his first wife in Ct in 1984 and we were married in 1985. As it turns out, the judge never signed or filed the order, and there is no record of any divorce on file at the courthouse, Are they legally divorced, and I am legally married to this man? I am about to divorce him and wondering if I am even legally married to him! His ex wife has also remarried, so this may affect her marriage as well. Thanks!
A : The threshold question appears to be if your current marriage is valid. Since bigamy is most likely illegal in Connecticut, you may not have been validly married. If you are indeed married, then the answer to your question largely depends on the filing procedures in Connecticut courts. If the judge did not sign the order, then you are probably not divorced.
