Q : I have just been informed by my ins co that I have to do mail order on my meds I take oxycontin. My ins co say my Dr has to write my scripts and send to a mail order rx co. my Dr says this is against il St law to ship 90 days of this med or even 30 days because of dea. But Ins says this is how they do it now.I need my meds and cannot pay $3000 a month for them without Ins co. Is it legal for Il doctors to send this kind of medicaton thru the mail. what does Il law say about this???? HELP
A : It can be done through the mail. DEA has guidelines for both the doctor issuing the script and the pharmacy that fills it. Whether DEA limits the amount of oxy that can be ordered via mail is something you and/or your doctor can call and ask them. See DEA Office Locations to locate the office near you.
